Shredding Keystone: Your Ultimate Snowboarding Guide To a Seamless Trip

Keystone, Colorado, is a paradise for snowboarders, offering a perfect mix of powder-filled runs, stunning alpine views, and a vibrant après-ski scene. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or just starting, Keystone has something to offer everyone. I have been boarding at Keystone for 25 years and love the village, which has easy access from the free parking lot to the runs and great shops for last-minute gear.

Why Keystone?

Keystone Resort is known for its world-class terrain and snowboarder-friendly vibes. With over 3,000 acres of skiable terrain, three impressive peaks (Dercum Mountain, North Peak, and The Outback), and one of the longest ski days in Colorado, there’s plenty of time to explore. Keystone also boasts a fantastic terrain park, A51, consistently ranked among the best in the country. It’s a dream for freestyle enthusiasts, featuring creative features like rails, jumps, and boxes for riders of all levels. I have found that my Burton Board and Bindings fare very well on the mountain!

Must-Ride Runs

If you’re seeking thrills, hit the Outback for some incredible tree runs and deep powder. Beginners can ease into the sport on Dercum Mountain’s Schoolmarm, a wide, forgiving green run perfect for building confidence. For intermediate riders, the runs off North Peak, like Mozart, offer a mix of groomed trails and light moguls to challenge your skills. There is also a ski school, which pairs with a lift ticket, so make sure to get the reservation first before purchasing your lift ticket to get the best deal!

Tip: make sure to download the Epic app for easy access to the map of all of Keystone’s runs, along with which runs are open and which chair lifts are running.

Tips for an Epic Day

Start early to enjoy freshly groomed runs before the crowds roll in. Keystone’s night skiing is also a must-try for a unique experience under the stars. Be sure to check the weather forecast and dress in layers to stay comfortable throughout the day. The snowboarding coats, pants, and gloves I like best keep me warm all day long, with plenty of pockets for my phone, go-pro, earbuds, and more.

Après-Snowboarding

After a day of shredding, relax at Keystone’s River Run Village. Grab a drink at 9280’ Tap House or treat yourself to dinner at Ski Tip Lodge. Don’t forget to soak in the hot tub if your lodging includes one—your legs, arms, and back will thank you! I drink Liquid IV as well to help with rehydrating muscles, which aids in altitude sickness, which causes muscle cramps, nausea & headaches. Drink LOTS of water!!

With its unbeatable terrain, top-notch facilities, and breathtaking scenery, Keystone is a snowboarder’s dream destination. Pack your gear and get ready to shred!
